QUEST
OCEAN EXPEDITIONS

From the tropical waters of the Caribbean to the icy reaches of the Arctic

North to the Ice Edge
Step aboard Quest for an Arctic expedition where we aim to sail as far north as the drifting polar ice will allow. Here, at the very top of Svalbard, the air feels sharper, the light never fades, and the stillness is broken only by the crack of ice or the call of seabirds. The ice edge is one of the richest and most dramatic habitats in the Arctic — a shifting frontier where sea and ice meet in a constant dance, teeming with life both above and below the surface.
The Route to the Ice
To reach the ice edge is our primary goal. Each summer, the position of the Arctic ice edge shifts depending on wind, weather, and climate. Our main focus on this voyage is to reach the ice edge – a journey that may take one to two extra days of sailing. We continuously monitor satellite images and ice charts to guide our route and adjust as conditions change. We will go as far north as it might take - we might end up further north than any other yacht ever has.
On the way north, we push as far as possible towards the ice. On the return, we cruise along the spectacular north-west coast of Spitsbergen, exploring fjords, glaciers, and historical sites, such as Magdalenefjorden, Kongsfjorden, Ny-Ålesund and Barentsburg.
While our clear aim is to reach the ice edge, conditions in the Arctic are never guaranteed.

A World Alive with Wildlife
Along the ice, life flourishes in remarkable ways. Beneath the frozen surface, algae cling to the underside of the sea ice, forming the base of a food web that supports Arctic cod — a fish so well-adapted it carries natural antifreeze in its blood. These cod feed seals and whales, while the skies above may be filled with kittiwakes, guillemots, and if we are lucky, the rare ivory gull. And of course, we will keep a constant watch for the true ruler of this realm — the polar bear.
Sailing into the Midnight Sun
From June to mid-August, the midnight sun bathes the Arctic in 24-hour daylight, casting a golden glow over mountains, glaciers, and endless blue seas. This voyage takes us beyond the usual reach of Longyearbyen, into remote stretches where few visitors have ever set foot. Whether it’s your first time in the far north or you’ve been to Svalbard before, the journey to the ice edge offers a perspective unlike any other — over 80° North, where summer feels like another world.
Life Aboard Quest
Quest is our comfortable base for this adventure — warm cabins, inviting communal spaces, and a full-time chef ensuring every meal is a highlight. Guests are welcome to join in the sailing, from hoisting sails and steering under Captain's guidance, to simply watching the horizon for wildlife. We operate in watch teams, sailing day and night when conditions allow, and anchor in sheltered bays for shore explorations. Out here, flexibility is key — we follow the wind, the weather, and the movement of the ice.
This is not just a voyage. It’s an encounter with one of Earth’s last wild frontiers — and a memory that will stay with you for life.

Highlights
Exploration, Nature & Wildlife
With only a small group of six passengers onboard, Quest offers unparalleled access to remote fjords and ice edges. Every day brings the chance to encounter polar bears, walruses hauled out on beaches, Arctic foxes, reindeer grazing tundra slopes, and whales or seals surfacing beside the ship.
Shore Landings
On our way back from the ice edge we will go cruising along the north and west coast of Spitsbergen, and visit historical sites, and bring you face‑to‑face with a timeless wilderness. Optional hikes deepen your connection to Svalbard’s rugged landscapes. Walk across tundra, cruise grand glaciers, and keep watch for walruses, reindeer, seals, whales, and soaring seabirds.
Flexible, Expedition-Driven Itineraries
Guided by ice and weather, our routes are designed to maximize wildlife encounters and breathtaking scenes—from the pack ice edge to hidden bays like Samarinvågen or Andréetangen, where walruses bask and seabirds teem.
Expert Knowledge & Onboard Enrichment
Each voyage includes daily briefings and lectures by our expedition guide — who illuminate the Arctic’s geology, ecology, and conservation challenges. Connect with the Arctic through guided talks, nature memories, and shared experiences. Learn the stories of explorers and scientific outposts as you sip hot tea against panoramic glacial backdrops.
Expedition Team & Hands-On Sailing
Discover the thrill of joining the crew in hoisting sails, navigating, and watch-keeping. You do not need to have prior sailing experience as our crew will guide you every step of the way, whether you want to be fully immersed or simply relax and just take in the view from the deck.
